10/27/2008 In-Class Writing #5 Leonardo da Vinci was an inventor, engineer, architect, musician, geologist, botanist, physicist, anatomist, sculptor and painter from outside of Florence. Leonardo was and is best known as an artist, the creator of such masterpieces as the Mona Lisa , Madonna of the Rocks , and The Last Supper . The book says that his major goal was to raise the status of artists from mere artisans to members of the highest level of society. He becomes proficient in oil painting. He painted many frescos for churches. He kept many journals full of notes and sketches. Leonardo produced a relatively small number of paintings, many of which remained unfinished, he was nevertheless an extraordinarily innovative and influential artist. Raphael is the most reproduced painter of the Renaissance. He is said to have had a very pleasant demeanor.
