Blending Theory= genetic material from two parents blend, i.e blue and yellow make green. Particulate hypothesis- parents pass on discrete heritable units. 2. Explain the components of Mendels hypothesis that led him to deduce the law of segregation. A. Alternative versions of heritable factors account for variation in inherited characters. Factors now called genes and alternative versions are now called alleles. B. for each character, get two alleles, one from each parent C. If two alleles differ, the dominant allele determines appearance, recessive has no noticeable effect. D. Two alleles for a gene separate during gamete formation and end up in different gametes. This is the law of segregation . 3. Use a Punnett square to predict the results of a monohybrid cross, stating the phenotypic and genotypic ratios of the F2 generation. 4. Explain how a testcross can be used to determine if an individual with the dominant phenotype is homozygous or heterozygous. Cross the dominant phenotype with a recessive phenotype, the genotype is known there. if all offspring show dominant phenotype, then it is homozygous, if half show and half show the recessive, then it is heterozygous. 5. Use a Punnett square to predict the results of a dihybrid cross and state the phenotypic and genotypic ratios of the F2 generation. 9:3:3:1 6. State Mendels law of independent assortment and describe how this law can be explained by the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis.
