EXAMPLE HIS 300 Week 1 Assignment Example of HIS 300 ASSINGMENT Week 1 Location and Climate Exercise Purpose: This assignment involves two geographic concepts: location and climate . You will be examining two locations: 1. Wilmington, DE 2. Shanghai, China These two cities are located on nearly opposite sides of the planet, and their locations provide key indicators about their respective climates. Climate is important in understanding the influences that, among other things, precipitation and temperature have on a region, or on a smaller scale, a city. In this assignment, you will examine the climates for Wilmington and Shanghai and report your findings by answering the questions below. SECTION 1: LOCATION 1. Absolute Location ( 15 Points ): a. What is the absolute location for each of these cities? Wilmington, DE, and Shanghai, China are seemingly on opposite sides of the world. As different as they seem the both possess comparable geographic variables, such as their absolute locations and local geographies. The absolute location of Wilmington, DE, USA is 39.7447° N, 75.5484° W, while the absolute location of Shanghai, China is 31.2304° N, 121.4737° E. Comparatively, they have a latitude different of 8.5143, and a longitude difference of -45.9253. b. Research the local geography of each city and briefly describe the significant or unique features that define these cities in terms of their absolute location. Think about the landscape. Is it flat? Mountainous? Urban? Rural? What kind of natural or human-made features would you see if you were standing at the absolute location for each city? I’ve never got to Wilmington, DE nor Shanghai, China, but through the power of google maps, I can take a virtual trip to both absolute locations. Wilmington’s Absolute location is at the intersection of 9th street and N. Market street, in a district or neighborhood called Rodney’s Square. I can see an Art deco building with a pharmacy and a sleek modern building containing a bank each opposite two different classical revival styled buildings that give the street a sense of history. The Art deco building must be of prominence because the pharmaceutical corporation that lives there clearly went to great lengths to match the design in how they colored and added their logos to the building. The classical revival buildings also strike me as old, the one with the inscription “Wilmington Savings Fund Society” seems to be older, as from one side of the street is has yellowing edges that the other
