Research Paper –Week 4 Case 48 - Sun Microsystems Oracle was founded by Larry Ellison in the late 1970s. The company went public on the NASDAQ in 1986. Oracle is a well-established organization that supplies software for enterprise information management, their key products are relational databases, middleware software, applications and related services. In the other hand, Sun Microsystems was established in 1982, an organization that provides products, services, and support for building and maintaining network computing environments. Their key products ranges from enterprise systems and services; storage and software platforms Java, Solaris, and MySQL, which was acquired on 2008. Given the companies background I would definitely agree that Sun Microsystems is a good strategic fit for Oracle. This acquisition would recognize Oracle as an operating system and hardware vendor in the market. It would also amplify the company’s overall spectrum to perform in a different software market. As expressed by Larry Ellison, “I have a vision for creating an end to end vendor that clients go to for all their technology”. By acquiring Sun Microsystems,
