Travis LakeBarbara RowlandEN106April 5, 2019Getting in Line For SchoolToday’s educational system is not what it once was. Maybe that is because schooling has become so expensive. No longer is it that students go to class, are taught, and go home to do homework. Instead, students today are constantly reminded of the monetary value associated with their education. They have transitioned from students with a passion to learn into students with a consumer mindset. It is argued that this transition has been a main hindrance for both the students and the educators. Part of the consumer mindset in education and society as a whole is the concept that individuals want things done a certain way and if that does not happen, then they complain in order to attempt to get things the way they want it. The author, Mark Edmundson, indicates that this is a major issue that educators are facing. Teachers and administrators are more concerned with making the students happy at all costs to get good reviews in order to continue to exist as aneducator. Edmundson explains to the incoming students what should be expected from faculty, administration, and the student themselves. Most of the incoming undergrad students believe thatall college takes is coming to class, paying attention, and making mediocre grades. They are
