PSY397 Lecture 3 Fear ConditioningBaseline performance measurement is in the first 2 minutes; and then the tone que appears, and the shock is delivered right before the tone ends – therefore there is temporal overlap. Every time the CS comes the US followsContext test: 24 hours later the animal can be put within the same context, no shocks or tone que. This measure how the animal responds to the chamber alone. The chamber doesn’t providegood continuity (always there) or contingent (there before, during, and after the shock) or temporal overlap. Training environment is a complex step of cues (ex. visual cues and olfactory cues etc). Much more complicated than on CS and US. Cue test: performed in a different chamber; no shocks but the tone cue is presented Variations of Fear Conditioning A.Cue plus contextual fear conditioning (important)* don’t need to focus on the othersFear Conditioning Automated RecordingFear Conditioning: foreground and backgroundTRAINING (C57BL/6)Known to be good learners; and during training there’s a rapid elevation of freezing after the shock. Freezing is a natural response for nocturnal animals. A motionless animal is technically invisible during the night. The white line didn’t receive the tone cue while the black line did. Both show freezing. CONTEXT TEST (C57BL/6)Responding to the chamber as if there was a shock but no shock is delivered. *They remember the chamber* 16:00.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
