CSE180 Project #2 – HTML (Spring 2020 Section A) What this project is about? 1. Learn basic HTML, understand how World Wide Web works. 2. Using HTML to create your own website that contains at least two web pages, namely index.html and resume.html . Your website should be fully functioning and can be viewed by anyone from anywhere on the internet. HTML Project Three Steps Short Explanation 1. Step #1 After you successfully finish Step #1 of the project, you will see the following default “Welcome to…” page at your home address at: Above is your URL (web address of your home page). If anyone on Internet typed above address in a web browser, network will go inside your www folder on ASU Web server and look for an index.html file by default, it then bring a copy of the file and show it on the viewer’s local PC. The current "Welcome to..." page is the default index.html file which was created by web server automatically when you activated your www folder. 2. Step #2 Now you have a default index.html page, in step #2, you will need to write/design your own index.html file to replace the default one. The index.html must be written in plain text. After you finished this step, you will need to upload your newly created index.html file, together with all the picture files INSIDE your www folder. Instructions on how to upload files can be found on pp.4 item #5 of this project's description. 3. Step #3 1
Each web page is actually an independent .html file. For this project, you're required to design two pages, one is the home page ( index.html ), and another one is the resume page ( resume.html ). In step #3, you will need to follow exactly the same procedure as writing the index.html, to write a resume.html in plain text, and upload it onto www folder. Also in order for people to view your resume page through your URL, you will need to create a hyperlink inside index.html that links to resume.html . In other words, no matter how complicated a website is, the index.html is always the entry point, from there people can access all other pages through those hyperlinks. For instructions on how to create such a link, please check this project's description pp.6 item #3 & #4 Detailed Instruction for Each of the Three Steps Step #1. Setting up service (Due on: Jan. 30th, 2020 at 11:59pm Arizona time) Note: Step #1 instruction can be found in module #6 1. Open a web browser, type inside the address bar 2. Login by using your ASURite ID and password. 3. From the "Current Subscriptions" table, make sure the following services are set to be “Active”. AFS File service (network file space) Personal Webpage Hosting 4. After you active above services, wait about 5 ~ 80 minutes, reopen a web browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome or Safari), type inside the address bar, remember to replace YOUR_ASURITE_ID with your actual ASURite ID (for example, mhan31 ) and don’t forget to type the ' ~ ' in above URL. If you see a “Welcome to…” page similar to the one we attached on pp.1, it means your web account is activated successfully.
