His use of captivating imagery, attentive repetition, and a shift to a personalizing tone emphasizes his message.Doyle’s often pleasant but slightly disturbing use of imagery conveys his message on the importance of purposeful living. He starts the essay by describing the qualities of the hummingbird and it’s heart to the audience, giving the reader this picture of a delicate quick living creature he writes, “Consider for a moment those hummingbirds who did not open their eyes again today”. This distinctly conveys the consequences of living life in the fast lane. He then continues to list off several different beautiful species of hummingbirds, each having their own special description. When he writes, “glittering-bellied emeralds, velvet-purple coronets”
