Katlin Leichty Eden Pearson Children’s Lit 26 October 2015 Inside Out and Back Again Inside Out and Back Again unfolds in Saigon, the capital city of South Vietnam. Ha and her family live poorly as food prices and living expenses drastically increase. The North Vietnamese had invaded South Vietnam and were coming closer and closer to Saigon. When the military finally arrives in the city, Ha and her family flee by boat. They are on the boat for several weeks with a scarce food and water supply. They decide to go to the United States and get paired to live with a family in Alabama. Ha is the main character and narrator. She is ten years old with a huge heart, for her homeland, for her family and for life. Ha enjoyed living in Vietnam even through the trials and difficulty from the war. She is strong through all of the changes and hardship, losing her father and transitioning into America. “No one would believe me but at times I would choose wartime in Saigon, over peacetime in Alabama.” Ha’s three older brother’s, Khôi, Vu and Quang have life and honor written
