Jayden Laxdal English III Mrs. Beckman 25 October 2017 Compare and Contrast of “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” by Katherine Anne Porter is a short story. It is a 20th century short story written in the stream of conscious. A film adaptation of the short story directed by Randa Haines has also been created, and was produced in 1980. The setting of both takes place in her daughter Cornelia's home. The short story and the film cover Granny’s physical activity and also how the reader gets to see Hapsy in different ways. The similarities are the themes that both the short story and film portray. The film and the short story include the same themes. One theme is that Granny is in denial, something will happen and she will try act like it did not. Theme two is that Granny can't let go of the past. This is shown in both the short story and film. She constantly talks about George, and has many memories throughout both. She says that she is better off without him.
