The PillThe name of Margaret Sanger and the issue of birth control have virtually become synonymous. Birth control and the work of Sanger have done a great deal to change the role of woman in society, relationships between men and woman, and the family. The development and spread of knowledge of birth control gave women sexual freedom for the first time, gave them anindividual identity in society and a chance to work without fearing they were contributing to the moral decline of society by leaving children at home. Margaret Sanger leaves a complicated legacy and one that conservatives have periodically leveraged into sweeping attacks on the organization she helped found: Planned Parenthood.Sanger’s stated mission was to empower women to make their own reproductive choices. She did focus her efforts on minority communities and mentally retarded women, because that was where, due to poverty and limited access to health care, women were especially vulnerable to the effects of unplanned pregnancy. One reason I could think of why this part of the story is not mentioned in Sociology textbooks and women's rights organizations is that birth control pill
