Sehgal Abstract This report contains information about the design and building on the mouse trap car constructed by team 6. The project was designed to test the knowledge of the students by making them apply what they learned in class to the real world. The car constructed had to travel a minimum of 50 feet and cost no more than 15 dollars. Additionally, the car must contain a minimum of three wheels that maintain contact with the ground at all times. This report includes the design process that includes the measurements taken to prove that it follows the constraints set in the project description, and a description of the final design as well as information about future work for an improved design. 5
Sehgal Introduction The goal of this project is to design and build a mouse trap car that meets certain criteria that are set by a client. The restraints given to the engineers was that the car may not cost more than 15 dollars, must ravel a minimum of 50 feet, have a minimum of three wheels that remain in contact with the floor, and has no other source of power other than the energy given by the spring of the mousetrap. This project required a team of 4 engineering students, that would come together to design and build this product. Furthermore, the project also required that the engineers come up with a C++ program to calculate the total cost of the car. The product designed is very good for the environment and is great for the future. This technology used is great because it allows the world to conserve its natural resources. The technology used in the car is spring technology which is great because that is the sole power going into the car. All materials in the car are recycled materials.
