There are three kinds of texture: Monophonic, Homophonic and Polyphonic. Monophonic is when the voices are at the unison, there are no harmonies. Homophonic is when the voices are in a 4-part harmony such as in a choir setting when the soprano, alto, tenor and bass are singing together. Polyphonic is when one voice escapes from the other creating an antiphonal effect through imitation. Notice in the example above that the right hand starts first and then the left hands follows, answering the invitation of the right hand or maybe echoing it. When a voice starts first, and then another one comes in chasing the first one, as it happens in the example above, what is the name of the texture created?
