Abstract The final project was for building and designing a mousetrap designed for distance, while satisfying certain constraints. The three group members at the University of Miami made AutoCAD drawings and Matlab calculations before building the car to understand the best approach possible. Introduction The mousetrap car was designed for distance. Firstly, AutoCAD was utilized to make orthographic drawings or the potential mousetrap car. Then, calculations using Matlab were made to ensure that the materials to be used and schematics of the potential car would have a certain mechanical advantage and a certain friction force. The mousetrap car relies on a form of mechanical advantage that converts fast bursts of energy that the spring has to a longer-lasting, but weaker, form of energy. Also, when friction is induced,
