2Content: This course is a history of the Eastern European vampire. We will begin with a discussion of pre- Christian Slavic culture, moving into the historical context that led to its spreading into Western Europe and eventually the rest of the world. Through this process we will investigate how the vampire changed from a symbol of death and disease to a representation of the human condition. Topics we will learn about include issues of racial identity, film studies, anthropology, medical science, and much more. The approach is interdisciplinary. Please note that lectures are copyrighted and cannot be recorded or reproduced in any form without written consent of the professor.
