2 Content: This course is a history of the Eastern European vampire. We will begin with a discussion of pre- Christian Slavic culture, moving into the historical context that led to its spreading into Western Europe and eventually the rest of the world. Through this process we will investigate how the vampire changed from a symbol of death and disease to a representation of the human condition. Topics we will learn about include issues of racial identity, film studies, anthropology, medical science, and much more. The approach is interdisciplinary. Please note that lectures are copyrighted and cannot be recorded or reproduced in any form without written consent of the professor. Assignments and Grading: I. Digital Lecture Platform: Dracula is an interactive course. If you were signed up for the course before the first day of class, you will have received an email from the company Top Hat with instructions and a special code to utilize their app to join the course. Access can be with any device such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or PC, the last obviously only for home usage. There are NO outside texts to pay for your payment is entirely processed by Top Hat. Make sure you are sufficiently charged and ready to go or have your power cable for power in the room. A join code will be presented on the screen in front of the classroom before I begin and with this code, which changes every day, you will have access to the lecture slides and questions for that day. Your access to the lectures is geolocated , meaning you CANNOT access it outside of the classroom and the system will alert me should you try! Lecture slides are left open for review after the lecture is over, but not before.
