Sean Lamb 16 October 2007 English 15 Outsourcing Schoolwork: Unethical Way to Success Outsourcing schoolwork, a good or a bad thing? In the editorial “Some Students Use Net to Hire Experts to Do Their Schoolwork” by Lee Gomes, it says that students go on the internet to find others to complete papers, exams, and other out of class assignments. Students that use these resources are not only cheating the system, but cheating themselves. Outsourcing schoolwork is plagiarism and cheating. Also, by getting other people to do the work that should be done outside of class, the student is not preparing themselves for in class assignments. Another reason why outsourcing schoolwork is wrong is because it will not have students ready for the workforce once they graduate from college. These are only a few of the numerous reasons why students should not be allowed to outsource their schoolwork or get away with outsourcing schoolwork. Plagiarism and Cheating First off, students that look for outside help to complete assignments are either usually just too lazy to do the work or they enjoy the nightlife too much like the student Mr. Nightlife Lover in the editorial. When students do not feel like completing their work they look to the internet for assistance. The internet and World Wide Web have made academic dishonesty considerably easier and faster (Embleton). Term papers are usually what a student will buy off of the internet and this is plagiarism. Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the

language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work. The act of plagiarism is illegal to do in all schools around the country. Along with plagiarism, students who purchase a paper off the internet need to be careful of the quality of the paper. One website offered quality papers about “Shakesperes Twelth Night” (sic) and a student who purchased the paper not only got caught for plagiarism, but they received a bad grade on the
