Why is understanding the health care system at the local level important to consider when planning an EBP implementation? Conduct research and solicit anecdotal evidence from your course mentor that you will take into consideration for your own change project. When planning EBP implementation on a local level one may consider what resources are available within that healthcare organization. For example, I work for a large health care organization in San Diego and we have 5 hospitals. Some of our hospitals have more resources because they make more money. Evaluating these resources is a great way to create ways to address problems through using EBP. Some nurses may not fully understand EBP and a nurse’s education should also be taken into consideration. Understanding problems gives medical professionals on the local level a better understanding of what the patient’s preferences and needs are. My mentor also believes in my project and is going to help by connecting me with management to share my research so we can create a plan to implement this. Nurses need to be educated so they can fully understand the importance of this EBP research. Therefore hospitals on this local level need to offer mandatory trainings keeping nurses current in their practices. If nurses are left to research on their own barriers such as lack of time, knowledge and skills are huge barriers. If nurses can understand then they can educate families (Warren and McLaughlin, 2016). Warren, J. and McLaughlin M. (2016). The Strengths and Challenges of Implementing EBP in Health Care Systems.
