My critical application paper will focus on a non-normative event that happened in 2010 when my family’s house was flooded due to a lot rain and clogged street drains. As a result, my family had to move in with my aunt Margaret and uncle Thomas. We stayed with them for about six months while our house was under construction for repairs. I will apply simple ABC-X model, the Lipman-Blumen model, and the Double ABC-X model to better understand how the event affected my family and me. I will also explain how my ethnicity and culture played a part on how my family dealt with the event. The simple ABC-X model according to the article Ethnic Families and Mental Health: Application of the ABC-X Model of Family Stress is broken down into four parts. In addition, I will also write about different coping strategies for the adjustment phase. In this paper, I will apply these parts to the event that occurred in my family:A.The Stressor Event: My family’s house getting flooded unexpectedly and then having to move in with my aunt and uncle. The model by Lipman-Blumen model will be used to classify and describe the stressor event that my family had to deal with. 1.Internal vs External: The origin of the event was external because it came from outside the family system.2.Pervasive vs Bounded: It was pervasive because everyone in my family was affected. We all had to change our schedules since we were living in a new place. Not only did my family must deal with rebuilding the house but also the costs and insurance relating to it.3.Gradual vs Sudden: The onset of the stressor event was sudden because no one knew that the flood was going to occur therefore. We did not plan on having to move in with my aunt and uncle.
