1. What are the two options for identifying students with learning disabilities?
Briefly summarize each one.
•
IQ-achievement discrepancy model: this model assess whether there is a great
difference between a student’s score on an individualized test of general
intelligence, and the scores obtained for one or more areas of academic
achievement.
•
Response to intervention: it has two purposes to provide early support to
students who are having academic difficulties and to offer an alternative to the
discrepancy model. Struggling students skills are monitored to determine if they
are showing an adequate growth after a high quality instruction is implemented.
2. List at least four benefits of using an RTI approach with struggling
students.

Early intervening

Identification of learning disabilities
•
Less students struggle before getting help. And the amount of time students
struggle is much more less
