Father works in Washington at the woolen mill 6. He gets $7.70/week 7. She was injured on the job 8. The machine pulled her scalp off 9. Was in the hospital for 7 months 10. Left school in the 6 th grade Socially: Wood Mill in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1905 Owned expensive tenements(dirty, dark) for workers to rent Needed cheap labor Mile supply was contaminated They sent a letter to the owner but got no reply, so they decided to strike Mill owners turned on hoses with freezing cold water The worker had no $ and their families were going w/o food The strike lasted 63 days and the owners were forced to raise wages, but the workers had suffered terribly The president of the company was indicted on suspicion of a dynamite plot (pg. 100) Police brutality because children tried to leave Lawrence to find other jobs, but they were not allowed
