Chiener states that the advantages of being a native researcher include being familiar with the language at hand, knowing the local customs, having contacts, and generally not being lost in terms of communication and mannerisms. However, one disadvantage of being a native researcher includes having to deal with the dual identity and responsibility of being a native researcher as well as being a fellow musician.
