Diversity Lecture Affirmative Action was invented based on 5 premises: •Adult white males make up something called the U.S. business mainstream. •The U.S. economic edifice has more than enough room for everybody. •Minorities should be allowed in as a matter of public policy and common decency. •Widespread racial, ethnic, and sexual prejudice keeps them out. •Legal and social coercion are necessary to bring about the change. However the Realities Have Changed: •White native-born males are a statistical minority. •The economy no longer seems stable, massive and invulnerable. •Women and minorities no longer need a boarding pass, they need an upgrade. •Although prejudice isn’t dead, businesses are filled with progressive people. •Coercion is no longer needed at the recruitment stage. The correct question today is not “How are you doing on race relations?” or “Are we promoting enough minority people and women?”, but “Given the diverse work force I’ve got, am I getting the productivity, does it work as
