Health insurance can cover someone’s hospital bill if they break a bone, catch a virus, or even develop a disease from international traveling. Health insurance is great, but noteveryone can be covered. (Amadeo) Prior to 2010, around 32-52 million Americans were unable to get coverage for healthcare (Amadeo). President Obama created a health insurance reform law in order to solve this issue. The Affordable Care Act was enacted on March 23rd, 2010 and is an alternative health care plan. The act was signed by President Obama and is nicknamed, “Obamacare.” The goal of the ACA is to expandthe population of people who have affordable health insurance. This could possibly be agreat law reform that could allow more healthcare coverage for Americans.(Galan) It also aimed to improve the quality of healthcare, put regulations on the health insurance industry, and to decrease U.S. spending on health care (Galan). (Amadeo) “A study by the Congressional Budget Office said the Affordable Care Act will lower the budget deficit by $143 billion over” the first 10 years. This would be done by lowering hospital visits and their payments, an increase in Medicare taxing on high income households, imposing penalties when an employer does not offer health care insurance or if an employee does not take the offered health care insurance, imposing taxes on a variety of health related activities, and overhead reduction through consolidation with a loan program of higher education via the Pell Grant program
