Christopher YemANTH 32910 February 2020Prevention Through Deterrence SummaryThis chapter depicted the odd relationship that the United States developed with a patch of land which I named, “Tierra de Meurte,” Land of Death. In the early 1990s, the US was facing problems in relation to border patrols and their handling of illegal immigrants. This was further escalated because in the city of El Paso, Texas, Mexican-American citizens were being harassed by customs officers to confirm their citizenship. A turn of events happened when a new head of chief was Silvestre Reyes implemented a new strategy to manage the crossing of illegal immigrants. By fortifying the main passageways and using certain geographic locations asbottlenecks for the immigrants to cross, it eased the pressure they would receive. This brings tothe point of the relationship between the border patrol agents and the desolate land they are
