EAS 120Y1Y: Modern Standard Japanese I 2008-2009 Department of East Asian Studies   University of Toronto I. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed for those with no Japanese language background. The course aims to build your basic written and spoken skills in the language as well as provide relevant cultural information. By the end of this course, you should expect to be able to read and write simple passages, including 220 kanji, and engage in simple daily conversations such as introducing yourself, talking about your interests, and asking for directions. II.
