MULTICULTURALIST POLICIES AND THE WELFARE STATE Western countries consist of national minorities, immigrants and indigenous people. Multiculturalism is the positive outcome of these countries. The ability of the multiculturalism policies to achieve their goals in favor of the minority groups may depend on how they fit into a larger package of public policies, including nation-building policies and policies designed to enhance the economic integration of newcomers. The fundamental question is whether the multiculturalism policies erode the welfare state in western countries. Do the MCPs weaken the welfare state? In making this analyze, the strength of the MCPs was compared with changes in the strength of the welfare state and changes in the social outcomes. The first indicates the social spending as a proportion of GDP and redistributive impact of government taxes and transfers that measures the level of poverty and the level of inequality.
