Biology 13 Dr. Sawa Course Syllabus Biology 13 Human Anatomy and Physiology I College of the Desert Spring 2009 Academic Objective: Use a systemic method of study to learn the normal and abnormal anatomy and functions of the human body. This is the first in a series of two lecture/laboratory courses that provide instruction on all the major systems of the human body. Topics covered in this course include; anatomical terminology, cellular anatomy, tissues, the integumentary system, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system, and special senses. Prerequisites: English 51 and Math 54 must be completed with a passing grade prior to enrolling in Biology 13. Note both Biology 13 and Chemistry 4 must be completed before you can enroll in Biology 14 (Anatomy and Physiology II). For lecture exams : 5 Scantron Sheets Form # F-1712-PAR-L (Large, pink with 200 questions) available at the Campus Bookstore. Directed dissection of non-human mammals is required Optional Materials: Lab coat, dissecting tool kit, disposable surgical gloves. 1

Biology 13 Dr. Sawa Course Syllabus Blackboard Course Website The course website on Blackboard will contain lecture notes, study guides, and assignments that can be printed in Microsoft Word format. Lecture slides will be available in PowerPoint format. Students are expected to print out lecture notes and assignments for themselves. Copies will not be available in class. Announcements will be made on blackboard and sent to you email address on file with WebAdvisor.
