Learning Objectives. i) After completing this chapter, students will be able to: a) Recognize a peace officer’s legal authority to remove vehicles. 2. VEHICLE REMOVAL a. Vehicle Storage. i) Vehicle storage is for safekeeping. a) Storage charges are normally the responsibility of the registered owner. b. Vehicle Impound. i) Vehicle impounds are for further investigation or punitive reasons (30-holds). a) The registered owner or department impounding the vehicle are responsible for the storage charges, depending on the situation. c. Removal Authority. HANDOUT: Storage i) Vehicle Code Section 22651. a) Unattended, Obstructed on Bridge or Tunnel – Vehicle Code Section 22651(a). b) Blocking a Highway – Vehicle Code Section 22651(b). c) Stolen Vehicle on Highway – Vehicle Code Section 22651(c). d) Blocking Driveway – Vehicle Code Section 22651(d). e)
