Kerr, 2009 6-3 Unit Objectives To understand that the process of writing is the same whether for a document or a presentation To understand the steps in developing messages and vehicles To have strategies for drafting messages To understand how to revise messages for content, style and correctness To understand options for formatting messages To understand the importance of and techniques for proofing To understand resources available for traditional writing guidelines Message Creation as Process Most people, when faced with needing to create a message of some sort, simply sit down and begin writing or keyboarding the information they need or want to include. This is true whether they are creating a written document or notes for a presentation. Their approach may take the least time but it can also be the least effective way to proceed. Writing at least most good writing doesnt just happen. As you learned in Unit 2, it is the result of careful thinking, analysis and planning. The place to begin, then, is with your PACE analysis.
