Beauty Log Corbin Cutshaw 1. Today while watching TV I came across a reality TV show called, “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”. It is a bunch of celebrities that are put in the jungle and the one that is able to stay there the longest wins the contest. As I was watching a female celebrity began to cry after her beauty supplies were jokingly sabotaged by other contestants. After this I began to realize how materialistic people’s views on beauty really are. The more focus that is placed on the physical and materialistic view of beauty there is a less amount of focus being placed on the “inner or “natural” side of beauty and can affect the way people interact with one another. 2. Cosmetic surgery is a really good example of how society perspective of beauty is so open to change. If there is something we don’t like about ourselves, we just go under the knife. In a way it is kind of disturbing to think that people have this distorted view of what it means to be beautiful. 3. While I was walking through campus the other day I spotted a mural on the side of a building with what seemed to be depicting an almost “perfect” woman. She had the light sunrays shining from her back making it seem as if she was descending down from the sky, almost as if she was

a superior woman. She was wearing the typical red dress with a “full” figure and had long blonde hair. I just found this very ironic of what people think to be a “beautiful” woman. The more I looked in this the more I found the connection with the semiotics discussed in class. 4. This is a picture of my hometown. I like this picture because it is the closest representation I have of what natural beauty really is. 5. One of my classes is in the art building so I regularly see the art work being done there. This week was different because they were having an art show and it would be on display all week long. Coincidently enough the subject matter the art show was based on was on nature and while I was passing by I couldn’t help but notice the different point of views people have on nature.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
