George Philip ENGL 106 Introductory Composition Spring 2008 A. Hanson, Instructor Reading Journal In life we come across many hurdles to overcome but none of them are as profound as Mr. Greg Mortenson has encountered. It is hard to imagine how or why one would one go through all the hardships he faced even though he knew he could get his old life back and give up his quest to build a school in the far reaches of the planet. Mortenson faced a number of obstacles like how the people of the various villages in Pakistan tried to convince him to build the school in their respective, but still standing his ground. He embarked upon the arduous journey in the dangerous Karakoram mountain range. It is hard to believe how he kept his cool even when he noticed how terrifyingly close they were to the edge of the cliff during the drive up the hills. On reaching the village of Korphe he learnt that a bridge was required to carry materials to build the school, which required a lot more money. That was not all, on returning to California his girlfriend
