BIS2B, Fall 2008 Study Guide 1 Lecture 1 Sept. 26. Let’s do a study guide for the first lecture, Friday, Sept. 26. We need to get going on biological diversity to cover the first laboratory. Remember that you have to turn in the first pre-lab by 9 am Monday morning, Sept. 29. The first laboratory on Discovering Diversity, 1.1 – 1.20 in the laboratory manual gives a great orientation on measuring diversity. The supplemental reading below gives back ground and conceptual basis for our lecture treatment of this topic. You should do the supplemental reading before the text reading that is listed in the syllabus. Supplemental Reading 1. Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MEA), Biodiversity Synthesis, pp. 18-24. Both the entire Biodiversity Synthesis and pp18-24 are posted on Smartsite. You need read only pp 18-24 now. 2. Wikipedia, Biological diversity. Sections 1 (Evolution and meaning), 2 (Definitions), 3 Measurement, 4. Distribution. Scan the remainder. And, watch the video, http://www.globalcanopy.org/ Topic A. Biological Diversity.
