Don Giovanni Response Journal II Anneliese Antonucci Don Giovanni's actions speak louder than his word. He seems and is perceived as a wayward Romeo. Actions conducted by him are a direct result of his ego and selfishness. The need to feel superior is very prominent in character. This need is possibly a result of being a peasant and having being looked down upon during formative years. Flaunting of his wealth is one of the main ways he seems to make himself appear more worthy. Raping women would illustrate that he has a need for power. Power and superiority are of extreme importance to Don Giovanni and supercede the rights or needs of others. This overpowering need probably stems from low self-esteem. People who know the real Don Giovanni such as Leporello realize that he is not worth anything. Leporello thinks poorly of his master because of his past actions. Shouting in Don Giovanni's ear, Leporello says, "The life you are leading is that of a scoundrel" (pg.99). There seems to be no envy or desire from Leporello to have Don
