Response Journal 1/23/08 Anneliese Antonucci First Year seminar Bernard Rodgers William Shakespeare had his Baptism on 26 th April in 1564 shortly after his birth. His mother was Mary Arden whom married his father, John Shakespeare, in 1557. His father started out as a tanner and worked his way up to mayor. William was the third child and eldest son. This infers that he had two older sisters. His family was well off because he received a degree form Oxford on November 27,1582. He married Anne Hathaway with whom he eventually had at least one child, who was named Susan Shakespeare. In 1592,his writing was referenced for the first time. Later on he was referred to as a principal tragedian (1603) and a principal comedian (1592). William either inherited a lot of money or had another occupation other than writing we can assume since possible near 1597 he bought New Place. New Place was the second largest house in Stratford, which he later left to his descendants. They mention that William while writing often incorrectly states technical information. William was not taken
