BIO 320 Dr. Bushart Print Name:________________________ Exam #5 2 PM – 5 PM Thursday May 8, 2008 Questions 1-3 refer to the following investigation: You are interested in cell size regulation and discover that signaling through a G-Protein- linked Cell-surface Receptor (GPCR) is important in controlling cell size in rat white blood cells. You know the following components are involved in the pathway: Adenylyl cyclase CRE-binding (CREB) protein A GPCR Protein Kinase A (PKA) A trimeric G protein 1. (8 points) Use precise but generic language (“kinase” is generic, “myosin light- chain kinase” is specific) to answer these questions: a) (4) What is the product of adenylyl cyclase? What type of enzyme would remove this product from the cell? cAMP is produced and is removed by cAMP phosphodiesterase. b) (4) If PKA is localized for quick activation where would you expect to find inactive PKA? Explain. Inactive PKA should be localized to the plasma membrane (cytosolic side) since that is where its activator, cAMP, is going to be produced.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
