Objectives By the end of this chapter, you should be able to: o Recognize the roles that financial markets play in the daily transactions of consumers, firms, and governments. o Understand the reasons why sound financial markets and institutions are needed in a well- functioning economy, as well as the relationship between strong financial markets and long run economic growth. o Identify basic terms relating to securities and foreign exchange markets, and apply these terms to future concepts discussed in class.
