How has the idea of freedom changed over the course of American history? Freedom – All broad essays, trace the evolution of this concept over time, or the role they play in key events. Freedom – trace how the idea or concept changed from the beginning of American history 1492 through Reconstruction. What constitutes Freedom then and Reconstruction. Pick 3 events that have changed those views. Freedom in 1492 was being Christian, right to do as you please economically, freedom belonged to Anglo-Saxon heritage and ideals. People who weren’t always had their freedoms limited. One of first major events that change concept was the American Revolution. Extending the voice of freedom to the larger majority of people and claiming that people have rights that cannot be taken away. Governernenat lfreedom. Personal freedom. Another event – Civil War – going to change idea of freedom to include people of all races, not slavery, slavery does not constituted freedom. Also Proslavery argument.
