CTCS 466 October 18, 2007 Movie: “Wristcutters: A Love Story” Opening - Don’t judge a movie by its running time, some of the greatest movies ever made have been very long (Gay Lawrence of Arabia) - Very few movies that couldn’t be improved by being made shorter - We haven’t really reached the level where it doesn’t matter anymore like if there is a black terrorist or Asian fraud thing at a bank or other minority villain, people are people, we should be able to look past the race, it is not perpetuating stereotypes - “Two reel” comedies: Charlie chaplin made them 2 reels long, 25-30 minutes long, became a standard - Charley Chase, started working behind the scenes, as did his brother James Perry, both went to work at Hal Roach studio for comedy. Studio was made for comedic movies - When sound came along, the Hal Roach studio dealt with it better than anyone else. They just pretended sound was no problem at all, went on with it. Other major studios were scared of it, as actors could not have the right voice and it can
