CTCS 466 October 25, 2007 Film: Darfur Now Opening - “Sleuth” – Remake, Bad bad film - harder to write a positive review than a negative - experience helps to write a positive review - documentary has come to the fore front now, never had before - fiction film making has become so weak, so real life documentaries are better - “Nothing less real than reality TV” - Shows are successful because they come in a neat package - “fictionalized non fiction” - documentary – if you were doing a documentary of this class, every decision the film maker makes affects the documentary - selection process: do you wanna make the lecture look interesting, or dull – big auditorium, small auditorium - 2 kinds: exploratory documentary, agenda documentary - exploratory: you think a topic is interesting, and go out and shoot - agenda: story you want to bring to the scene - historical documentaries: historical research, footage, talking heads, Burns was first one to get A-List celebrities to read letters in documentary
