CTCS 466 September 27, 2007 Movie: “Trade” Opening - Exciting to uncover a movie, or discover it for yourself without seeing trailers or looking it up - Handheld camera puts you into the movie, feeling of spontaneity, semi documentary reality - Hollywood is always one war behind, don’t want to fall into a trap for consideration - Platoon, made 20 years after, people thought it would be to sensitive, but it did the opposite and it was a success. - Black Hawk Down happened 10 years earlier - Hollywood feels Iraq war is fair game - Hollywood started to make very patriotic and almost jingoistic films during world war II - Alfred Hitchcock made Lifeboat, about survivors from a shipwreck who were all thrown together and one of them is a Nazi, but he is treated as a human being, then Hitchcock was vilified for saying how a Nazi could be human at all - Warner Bros Cartoon with human actors with animated cartoon characters on same screen. -
