In this lesson, I plan on focusing on second-grade mathematics. The Common Core State Standard I will be focusing on 2.NBT.B.5, “Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategiesbased on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.” (Grade 2 " Number & Operations in Base Ten, 2019). The learning objective is: Thestudents will show their knowledge of adding two numbers within 100 using strategies like mental mathematics, sketch, or model and have them explain how they reached their answer. We will be completing this task through a mathematical task that they will work in groups of 6 to complete. The manipulatives that they will have access to if they choose to use them are 100’s charts, base-ten blocks, connect cubes, and blank paper. The student will be practicing the Standards for Mathematical Practice as well. The student will be practicing standard four Model with mathematics. This standard is where the student will be applying mathematics that the students know by describing what is happening in the mathematical task and making an equationfor the story. The students will be completing practice five and six by using the appropriate tools strategically and attending to precision. The last standard the student will show is practice three
