Instructional Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to… Define culture and discuss the importance of studying cross-cultural differences Identify a few different styles of communication, and the possibility of miscommunications they can engender Discuss the main distinctions between individualist and collectivist cultures in their views of the individual and society, and how these differences may be manifested Discuss some value differences between cultures as well as some characteristics believed to be universal among humans Define deconstructionism and some of the problems believed to be associated with the study of cross-cultural differences Provide an overview of the fate of the “Big Five” personality traits when studied across cultures
