The character foils inJane Eyrefeed into the climax and affect Jane'soverall way of being. Without the character foils present in this novel, Jane's development ofcharacter and emotional growth would have perished rather quickly. In the classic novelJaneEyre,Charlotte Bronte brings her characters to life through the foils of Georgiana Reed and JaneEyre, Miss Temple and Mrs. Reed, and St. John Rivers and Mr. Rochester.Even though Jane and Georgiana Reed are cousins, the foil between the two of themexemplify Jane's plain physique and docile nature in contrast to Georgiana's beauty andimmature behavior.
