The Cuban Revolution took place on July 26, 1959 (Wikipedia, 2006). I was born in February of 1966. I am  the only child of Jose López and Maria Famosa. We lived in Marianao, a suburb of Havana (The Columbia Electronic  Encyclopedia, 2003). Marianao had grown with the sugar industry (The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 2003).  Now, seven years after the communist revolution, buildings were beginning to show disrepair. The once freshly  painted wood was chipped and things looked tired, but I did not see that. I saw our family home, large enough to have  its hallway hold bookcase after bookcase of books and our baby grand piano. Somehow we had managed to hold  onto it. My mother told me the bathroom just off the kitchen had been the maids’ bathroom, but that no one had a  maid anymore.  In 1971, six months after my fourth birthday, my mother and I boarded a plane for Miami. We were two in a  group of what would eventually be, through 1980, over 500,000 Cubans going to the United States (Cuba’s Exiles:  Portrait of a Refugee Migration). My father cried at the airport, and asked me to say goodbye. I refused. I thought if I  did not say goodbye, he would not let me go. He finally cried too much though, and I tearfully said, “Okay, daddy,
