Treatment Outside Hospital Regular exercise, weight control, and smoking cessation are encouraged. Smoking cessation is the only intervention that can reduce the accelerated decrease in lung function. Pulmonary rehab- ilitation may improve exercise capacity and quality of life for those with moderate to severe COPD.
