Co-workers view managers with these characteristics as being effective in the participative style. Being centered and grounded is a valuable quality for managers. It's important for managers to give the impression that they are in control of themselves, understand themselves, and know their own strengths and weaknesses. The degree to which managers are perceived as being selfaware, straightforward, and composed and as having balance between their personal and work lives is based largely on how they react under pressure and in difficult situations. If they fall apart or flare up with anger, their leadership abilities are liable to be questioned; if they are imperturbable and resist flying off the handle, their managerial skills are likely to be confirmed.
