After world war I Americans had a strong desire to stay out of international affairs Become more isolationists in the 1920 & esp. the 1930s because the depression is happening and concentrate on solving our own economic problems 2. Neutrality Acts 5 acts which essentially made it illegal for Americans to travel on ships going to and from countries that are at war Made it more difficult for American companies to trade with countries in war Government is trying to learn from the past and keep themselves out of war American Isolationist’s sentiment reached its height in these acts II. The Depression Abroad 1. Radio and Newsreels More Americans than ever are going to the movies and listening to the radio to escape These radio programs included news about what was going on in the rest of the world When people went to the movies in the 1930s saw cartoons, contests and newsreels before the movie. The newsreels showed what was going on in the rest of the world Makes people feel more connected to international events than ever before 2. Radical Solutions to the Depression People are finding that Americans depression had made many people in the world go into a depression which caused businesses and banks to fail

There are place in Europe where the countries have been using radical solutions to solve their depressions. The solutions were very socialistic and they were working in Italy and Germany. These later become totalitarian movements 3. Taking Power Parties began to push for socialistic agenda to solve problems of their country These governments take over all businesses and end capitalism so that the collective will collectively benefit from its output Nazi party in Germany embraces this and also blame others for their problems like Jews because they don’t spend their money, western banks, and the treaty that ended World War I because it eliminated a lot of jobs The German and Italian people voted the parties into power 4. Keeping Power The first thing to do to keep power is to solve the economic problems. Hitler solved the economic problems that Germany had by adding jobs in
