History 152 Fall 2008 Exam #1 Study Guide The exam will consist of three sections , worth 75 points total : Section One will consist of matching ( 6 matches for total of 12 points ) and multiple-choice questions ( 10 questions for total of 20 points ). Section Two will be identification ( 6 terms out of choice of 10 for total of 18 points ). Section Three will be the essay response to Erik Larson’s book (25 points) . For the first two sections of the exam, please make a concerted effort to review lecture notes AND read carefully in Eric Foner’s Give Me Liberty , Chapters 16-19 . Questions and terms in these two sections will be taken from both lectures and the textbook. There will be no questions on the exam pertaining to material in After the Fact . In the second section of the exam you will be required to select and identify six of a possible ten “key terms.” I will select these terms from the list provided below. Each answer will be judged on the following basis: (1) does the answer properly identify the term; (2) does the answer offer a clear explanation of the term’s immediate significance; (3) does the answer offer one example of how the term illustrates broader trends and developments in American history from the Civil War
