Science - Def.  Science is a mode of inquiry that attempts to arrive at knowledge of  the physical universe by means of observation and by the testing of  hypotheses  o Ex. A single atom, a galaxy  - A second Def of science o A “body of knowledge” o Scientific knowledge grows through time o Scientific knowledge is constantly revised o Major revisions are termed: Scientific Revolutions – a lot of what we  know is  - Fundamental Basis for Science o Nature is understandable o Nature follows basic laws  - Three Characteristics of Science o A. One- divided into fields of study (1) Divided into fields of study (scientific disciplines)  Ex. Chemistry, physics, biology, astronomy, geology (2) Disciplines, sub-disciplines, sub sub … etc o B. Two-Scientists o C. Has a mode of operation
