MA 316: MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITY FINAL EXAM REVIEW FALL 2003 The final exam will take place on Wednesday, December 10th from 8:30-11:00 am and will cover ev- erything in the course. It is strongly recommended that you review your assignments and the first exam in addition to all lecture notes. Some specific comments regarding the sections we covered in the course are below. NOTE: During the exam, you will be given a copy of the covers of the text and all pertinent tables. CHAPTER 1: 1.2: Intersection, Complement, Venn Diagrams. 1.3: Probability set function (3 properties), Theorems 1,2, 3, 4,and 5. 1.4: Conditional Probability, Multiplication Rule, Law of Total Probability, Bayes’ Theorem, and Inde- pendent events. 1.5: Discrete random variables (density and distribution functions.) 1.6: Continuous random variables (density, distribution functions). 1.7: Properties of Distributions (mainly F 0 ( x ) = f ( x )). 1.8: Expected value. 1.9: Variance (both the definition and the easy way to find it), moment generating functions, how to find μ and σ 2 from M ( t ).
